What a great volunteer experience!  It was rewarding to serve on the board of directors for WTG from a start up non profit and watch it grow each year.  We all struggle with how to help change the world to make it better.  WTG helps people locally and globally.  I was amazed that by volunteering my time in a small community I could impact the lives of so many people. Thanks to all the people @ WTG who have worked so hard to make this a destination stop in Winneconne, Wisconsin.  Go Thrift!

Best stunt......  Heavy snow was on the awning, threatening to break it.  So I set up a ladder, wrapped my arms around it to steady it and my Mary climbed up on the ladder with a big snow rake.  There she was, at the top of the ladder, pulling the snow off the awning.  Sorry I never got a picture of that stunt!!

Most fun time......  An electric-powered mobile chair for the handicapped was donated and I decided to "test drive" it to be sure it worked well.  I went around the block downtown FOUR TIMES because it was so much fun!  Afterwards, we had to disconnect the battery while it was on display.  Otherwise, kids would come in and try to drive it around the store!

Fun on moving day......  On our final day of moving to the new store, Dick Baumgart loaded up his trailer with the checkout counter.  And I had to stand in the middle of the street, temporarily stopping traffic in both lanes until Dick was able to back his car up, load the counter and then drive it over to the new store.

I served on the Thrift board of directors from 2008 through October 2015 and also handled the scheduling of volunteers for a year.  As a member of the books and media department, I spent countless hours sorting bin after bin of books.  To help boost the community's exposure to Thrift, I created a Facebook page and this web site.  Even though I'm no longer a board member, I continue to assist with miscellaneous tasks that can be done from outside the store.  Occasionally, I fill in at the cash register so I can interact with the customers, who make this store a huge success!
