Store Manager/Volunteer Coordinator

Position Purpose
Plan and organize store operations and the volunteer program working with department contacts and members of the board of directors to understand the variety of needs for store operations and volunteer support. Ensure the volunteers are appropriately trained and assigned to duties of interest and need. Provide guidance, support, and resources to volunteers. The Store Manager/Volunteer Coordinator will recruit and train new volunteers. The position’s success should result in volunteers with a deeper understanding, engagement and commitment to the mission of WTG, and a vibrant and economically successful store operation. The store manager/volunteer coordinator reports to the president of the board of directors and is accountable to the board.

- Develop and implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program which reflect the mission and strategic plan for WTG.
- Assess the need for volunteers by meeting with department contacts to determine needs of each department and skills of volunteers needed.
- Conduct evaluation of the performance of volunteers and provide advice and assistance to volunteers as necessary.
- Conduct periodic interviews with each volunteer to determine their interests and materials needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Establish and implement a process for evaluating the contribution of each individual volunteer and receive feedback on their satisfaction with volunteering at WTG.
2. Organize the Volunteer Program
- Advise the board of directors and administer/review policies and procedures to guide the volunteer program.
- Develop forms/records/software use to document and quantify volunteer activity.
- Work with department contacts to understand the needs for volunteers. Evaluate the risks associated with each volunteer position.
- Assign volunteers based on interest, ability and need.
- Coordinate and oversee “Saturday Revenue Sharing” program ensuring full coverage of daily duties by authorized community organizations. Includes training and quality assessment activities. (Participating community organizations to be determined by board.)
- Determine participation level and coordinate with school district and community programs for opportunities to enhance work related skills of students and clients.
3. Engage Volunteers
- Complete and maintain a monthly volunteer schedule with adequate coverage during store hours.
- Develop strategies to actively recruit volunteers as needed.
- Promote the volunteer program to gain community support of WTG.
4. Lead the Volunteer Program
- Train volunteers to work effectively and cooperatively with other volunteers.
- Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its customers, services, roles and responsibilities of the volunteer.
- Ensure that all volunteers understand the scheduling, sub list, and check in/out procedures.
- Ensure that all volunteers receive the appropriate amount of supervision.
- Assist with conflict resolution among volunteers.
- Within budget, plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to thank and publicly acknowledge WTG volunteers.
- Prepare an annual report on the contribution of the volunteer program.
- Monitor expenditures of the volunteer program against the budget.
5. Store Management
- Ensure that all areas of the store are safe for customers and volunteers.
- Maintain a clean and attractive appearance of the store property (floor space and outdoor areas) during hours of operation.
- Plan and implement strategies and tasks to ensure efficient and effective handling of material donations including receiving, sorting, and storage of donated items.
- Plan and implement strategies and tasks to ensure efficient and effective pricing, sales promotion and inventory management of donated items.
- Work with department contacts to determine and provide support for their operations.
- Coordinate planning and work activities between departments.
- Effectively supervise volunteer force and compensated staff.
6. Communication and Administration
- Advise the board of directors regarding all operations of the store and volunteer programs, and recommend policies and other actions to improve the welfare of WTG.
- Assist with formulation of the annual budget and, upon budget approval, effectively administer budget matters in compliance with governmental requirements and WTG policies and procedures.
- With frequent and regular methods communicate store information to board members and volunteers.
- Work with designated Leadership/Consultant team members to assist, support and initiate programs and activities (including non-monetary donations, community involvement, human resources, volunteer appreciation, sales team, marketing/advertising, and floor design/layout).
- Assist the WTG Grants Committee with their work to distribute budgeted grant dollars to designated organizations.

- Relevant experience working in a volunteer organization either paid or unpaid desired
- Relevant experience in marketing and administration desired
- Knowledge of current trends, resources and information related to volunteerism preferred
- Must be available and accessible for interactions with volunteers and board members during store operation hours including some evenings and weekends.
